Such a dazzling coat in many colors...

"Joseph..." was amazing last night. Simply amazing. I didn't realize that it's an opera, but it is. There was no talking. Not at all. Not once. Just how I like it. :) The two lead parts (narrator and Joseph) were both done by people I know. The narrator was played by Jillaine McGough who directed Chizzle Wizzle Minstrel for 3 years while I was at Cony and was also in "Into The Woods" with me. Joseph was played by Dean Neal who starred in "Into The Woods" as well. Both were fabulous. Dean's voice was showcased PERFECTLY and it's amazing.

Friday night Brian and I are going to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Waterville Opera House. I have never seen it before, but I love the music. In high school chorus we did a medley of songs from it and it's beautiful music. Chris' dad, sister, and brother are all in it, so it'll be nice to see them again.
Plus, it's always a treat to spend time with Brian. He's one of my oldest and greatest friends and it means a lot to me that though he still resides in Augusta and I live here we've made time throughout this year to see one another.

oh whatttttt a beautiful morrrrrrrning, oh whatttttt a beautiful dayyyyyyy...

If this is not the cutest freakin' dog you have ever seen in your entire life, then I am not sure what is wrong with your eyeballs. That doggy is my dream dog. A tiny little pug puppy...oh my gooooodness. With smoothies, a blanket, and books en tow Sara and I headed to the mall (not the shopping mall) for a little R&R. It was a gorgeaus day today and the perfect day for sitting outside and people watching, as well as doggy watching. That little princess' name is Lucy and her owner was more than happy to let us pet, hold, and take pictures of her. Here's another one:

Naked green bikers...

So, around 11:50 today I was minding my own business, soaking up the sunshine, and chatting with my friend Alyssa on the phone. We were trying to figure out where one another were so we could meet for lunch. I get past the library and on a little field to the right of me a band is set up playing. Suddenly I see about 25 bikers coming toward me on the path. They appear to be wearing green bike suits. The lead singer of the band says "woooooo! come over here ladies!" and the bikers proceed to cheer. I jump off the path and onto the grass to let them pass and this is when I notice boobies and penises and nakedness. Alyssa, who had rounded a corner up ahead of me spotted the bikers and said over the phone "are they naked?!?!?!"...indeed they were and painted green...not that that covered anything. Naked bodies are naked bodies, so whatever floats, but I was just not expecting it at all. It also bothered me because the last guy in the stampede of naked bikers was like yelling at me, his penis flopping about. It was disturbing. After they passed I met up with Alyssa and we laughed for a good 10 minutes.
Sitting on a bike seat cannot be comfortable with exposed peepees and vajayjays...that's all I have to say to that.

mango smoothies on a beautiful day...

3 days in a row last week Sara and I went to Border's bookstore in Bangor and I got a mango smoothie each time. It is so yummy. The weather has been beauuuutiful the past few days. So sunny and great. I was supposed to go on a geology field trip today but on Friday my geology professor canceled class and canceled the field trip. I guess he's sick. I know there are field trips this weekend too that I can go on, but I am going home to see Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Brian, though I can make it back by Sunday's trip. We'll see how it works out.
Yesterday afternoon Sara and I went home for the evening. I stayed at my mom's house and she took me to get some job applications for this summer. I returned them this morning before Sara and I went to school. So, I'll keep my fingers crossed about getting a job. When I was returning my application to Linens-N-Things I saw Senora Livingston and her boyfriend, Robby. It was nice to see her again. She is one of my top fav teachers of all time. She just got back from Spain with a group of students, but she said the trip wasn't as fun as when she took us. Alright, gotta run. Later, gators.

How in the world...

I think WebDSIS read my blog entry last night and felt sad that I said it was not my friend so it made my registration as easy as possible. I was done in 20 minutes. I was amazed. In comparison to last semester when I was up until 2:30 in the morning struggling with ERROR messages, last night it took about 10 minutes to get logged on and it only kicked me off once and took another 5 minutes to get back on, and then like 5 minutes to add all my classes. So, I got to bed at a sort-of reasonable hour, which was good because Tuesdays and Thursdays are my early morning.
This morning was the first time in a long time, though, that I got to walk ACROSS the mall when it wasn't covered in snow. When there is snow on the mall, people usually create paths that everyone ends up walking on through the snow. But, when it is raining, or has rained in the last few days, forget it. It becomes a soupy, soggy, pool of grass and mud and people avoid walking on it for fear of sinking in. This morning though, the wetness had mostly dried so it was nice. As the day continued the weather continued to get better. It's actually pretty springy out right now, let's cross our fingers that it stays that way.
I hope the weather is alright on Sunday. I have to go on a freaking geology field trip. We have to leave at 8am and travel to all these mountains and crap to look at geological features. I asked him if we were going to have to hike, he said no, so THANK GOD. I'll bring my IPod, a book, snacks and I'll sleep on the bus.

Oh, the dreaded night...

Well, tonight is the night that most everyone loathes on campus. REGISTRATION. For a week in the fall and a week in the spring the Starbucks on campus cheers while students groan about the inevitable late night they will suffer through. Let me explain the ever ingenious registration process:
For about a week there are 2 days per grade level when you are allowed to register for the next semester's classes. Seniors are allowed to register first, juniors second, and so on. Registration for first-year's (me) starts tomorrow, April 19. Because everyone is scrambling around to get into the classes they want (they fill up quickly especially since 3 groups of people are allowed to register before us) people begin registering for classes as soon as it is April 19, in other words at the strike of midnight tonight. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal, right? You stay up 'til midnight, take a couple minutes to register, and go to bed. HA! If only it were that easy. In all reality you stay up until midnight, take a couple HOURS to register, and go to bed. Now, you may be saying to me "hours, Sarah? c'mon, you're exaggerating..." No, my friend, I certainly am not. We register for classes on an online website called "WebDSIS". This website is usually my friend. It is houses pretty much everything I need to know about my school life...my grades, my schedule, financial aid info, and other such things. BUT on registration night, DSIS is ANYTHING but a friend. Because 209830948209348 other first-years are attempting to log on at the same time, DSIS goes friggen crazy and on average you get an ERROR message for a good hour, then FINALLY it will let you in. After you finish you're happy dance and register for one class DSIS will go crazy again and log you off without warning. You then go through the hell of attempting to sign back in, only to receive the ERROR message, until around maybe 2:30 you are done registering and can slumber. It's a horrible, frustrating, idiotic process that needs to revisions, but that won't happen, because people complain about it ALL THE TIME and nothing gets changed. So, wish me luck...oh, and did I mention I have class at 8 tomorrow morning.....oyyy vey.

We'll walk in fields of gold...

Whenever I am feeling blue, or lonely, or even just bored I like to go the Smithsonian Zoo website and look at the pictures of Tai Shan, the baby panda. I've seen him in person (err...panda) twice. The first time was not long after he was born in November 2005. He was just a little ball of black and white fur and was sleeping. He was adorable though. The second time was this past summer when I went to DC with Chris. He was playing in a tree though so it wasn't as easy to see him.
Yesterday after hearing the news about Virginia Tech the whole UMaine campus had a certain solemness to it, I think everyone was soaking up the facts and realizing how similar a campus we are to Virginia Tech and it's a scary realization. So, instead of focusing on the sadness of it all, and the confusion the news was spewing at us, I headed to the Smithsonian website and looked at my buddy, Tai Shan. There's a certain innocence to all animals, but especially baby ones when they are as cute as little Tai Shan is. I mean...what's not to love about this little face?:
Sometimes I think I should get into zoology, but then I remember I don't like science and that all I would want to do is hug baby pandas all day long and I don't think they have a position such as that at most zoos. Oh well...for now, I'll just go to zoos and look at their adorableness from there.
But, seriously...the next time you are feeling down or anything head on over to the Smithsonian Zoo website, I promise that Tai Shan will put a smile on your face. :)

Oh, Mike Hein...you are such a charmer...

Well, good ole Mike Hein is at it again. For those that do not recall this lovely man, look no further than some of my older posts. He was the "True Christian" man that wrote lies about my friend Jeremiah in the CCL newsletter. He was the one I mentioned in my letter to the editor. After I wrote my letter to the editor refuting everything he said, he was quoted in the CCL newsletter saying that it was the "sad, tortured logic of a 19-year-old mind brought up in the Augusta school system". He is also the person known for bashing on the KJ...yet, he found no problem with writing a letter to the editor of the KJ on April 9 in response to the recent closing of Delia's Restaurant in downtown Augusta. Delia's was a really yummy Irish restaurant, but apparently they weren't making enough revenue to keep afloat, which is really a bummer. And, oh yes...one of their owners is gay.
Mike Hein had this charming response:

The good Lord smiled upon Augusta last week with the news that Delia's Bar has closed.

Delia's was one of only two bars to sponsor a float in last year's Southern Maine Gay Pride Parade. The other was Blackstones, a gay, leather-bondage/fetish bar in Portland. Delia's also hosted the homosexual lobbying group EqualityMaine's annual fundraiser in February.

Augusta is a far more friendly town to traditional families now that Delia's is closed.

He is just uber intelligent is he not? I mean, forget the fact people lost their jobs, a good restaurant is closing its doors, and most of Augusta is sad about it, but let's focus on the sexual orientation of the restaurant owner because that is surely a factor on how well they make their horseradish potatoes. There is a difference between being a Christian and being just plain hateful. I think to call yourself a Christian and then to hate is extremely hypocritical.

It's is a bit satisfying to read, however, because this moron had the audacity to call my logic "tortured" when he is the one claiming that a restaurant's quality is based on who the owner goes to bed with at night.

So, I have one thing to say to Mr. Mike Hein...God is good, Mike...you, on the other hand, are not.

What can you see on the horizon?

Well, since I last wrote things have been pretty good!!
On Thursday, Sara, Alyssa and I went to see "Betty's Summer Vacation". Some of my friends from Bat Boy were in it (shout-out to Alec, Anthony, Phaelon, Lydia, Sarah, and Toby!). It was FANTASTIC, really bizarre, but absolutely hilarious. It's by Christopher Durang who is known for his absurdest works of art.
In case you're interested, here is the synopsis on the UMaine School of Performing Arts website:
"Looking for a little rest and time by herself, Betty rents a summer share at the beach. But Betty's luck turns to delicious lunacy when she gets drawn into the chaotic world of some very unsavory housemates - her friend Trudy, who talks too much; the lewd, seminaked Buck, who tries to have sex with everyone; and Keith, a serial killer who hides in his room with a mysterious hatbox. With sand between her toes, walking a thin line between sanity and survival, poor Betty will leave her summer vacation more terrorized than tan. Death, destruction, mayhem—Betty finds it all in her seaside retreat."
At times it was really unsettling and uncomfortable, but the acting was great and it was like side-splitting laughter. So, yes, Thursday was good.
Friday, I woke up in hopes that I wouldn't have class because of the storm, but no such luck. So, I got up, logged onto my computer, and found out that my first class had been canceled by the professor anyway!!!! So, needless to say, I jumped right back into bed and slept for another hour. Nothing too exciting happened last night, I finished the book I was reading, but that is about it.
Tonight(Saturday)...I had a collegiate chorale concert, which went pretty well. We sang some cool songs. My favorite was an arrangement of Annie Lenox's "Into The West" which was arranged by a UMaine student, which is always cool. He also conducted it.
After that I came back to the dorm and found out that Chantal, Corey, and Dan were on their way for a visit. So, Sara, Chantal, Corey, Dan, and I all went out to Applebee's and had appetizers. It was a good time. Then we hung out with Nick and Sean for awhile, it was funny. I laughed a lot.
Tomorrow, I am going to do homework and maybe catch the matinee of "Betty's" again because it was that entertaining.

It felt like a lifetime...

What do me and this Nascar looking car have in common? Well, the number 82. I got an 82 on my Geology test! AN 82!!!!!!!!! To some people, perfectionists, that may not seem like all that great of a grade, but when in comparison to my 49 and 43 on the prior 2 tests, I think it's pretty damn good.
Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. I've been kind of busy. I have an audition set here at UMaine for Music Ed. It's on May 10th at 3:10 PM. So, I have just under a month to prepare for it, which makes me feel lots better about the entire thing. I met with a music ed adviser the other day just to talk about the program, I really hope I get in, I think I'd be really happy there.
Chris flew back to Minnesota on Monday. It was a little bit hard to say goodbye to him on Sunday night, but he'll be back soon. :)
I have to go to Spanish soon and then Chorus and then I have a meeting with my adviser to pick classes for next year (which hopefully I will change once I am in the music ed program). Tonight Sara, Alyssa, and I are going to go see "Betty's Summer Vacation" which is the play right now on campus. A lot of my Bat Boy pals are in it, so it'll be fun to see them perform.

A few weeks ago Brian gave Sara and I his Super Nintendo along with several games. Now, I have never been a big video-gamer by any stretch. My brother had a Super Nintendo, a Sega, and then a Playstation. In fits of boredom I would dabble on the S-Nintendo or the Sega. I rarely EVER played the Playstation.
Lately however, I have found myself becoming ADDICTED to Donkey Kong Country 3 on our new Super Nintendo. Sad, I know. I can't help but want to make it to the next level and often times want to throw my controller through a window when I don't.
So...I'm here to admit it. My name is Sarah Thurston and I'm a Kong-aholic.

A SNOW DAY!!...in APRIL?!

Last night I went to bed with little hope that we would have a snow day today. I mean, c'mon! In April? That's just silly! When I woke up at 7 this morning I was dreading having to get up and walk to class. I decided that I would call 581-SNOW to see if maybe JUST maybe we had a snow day though I highly doubted it.
To my complete surprise and delight I heard:
Because of the snow storm classes scheduled to be in before noon today are canceled.
I couldn't believe it! I even woke up Sara I was so excited. So, I slept until 11, got up, took a shower, ate lunch and then headed over to chorus (the only class I have after 12) only to find the door locked and the classroom dark. Almost as immediately as I noticed this my friend Erin called and said that chorus had been canceled. Though it was exciting to not have class I was a little perturbed that I had walked ALL the way over there in the snow only to have to walk back. Oh well!! Tonight I am going to study for my geology test tomorrow, watch UMaine hockey in the frozen four, and sleep. Tomorrow I have 2 classes and then I am going home so that I can spend some time with Chris before he flies back to Minnesota on Monday. It'll be a bittersweet weekend, but in no time at all he'll be home for summer. So yay! Alright, gotta go!

hey, Summer...where ya been?

What the HELL is going on with this damn weather? This weekend was so nice and sunny and warm and right now it's snowing outside. Good grief, I can't wait until summer. 1 month and 3 days until finals start. I couldn't be more ready to be on summer break. Lately I've been really stressed with school work. My classes this semester are boring and I am not doing as well as I did last semester. I really want to be in the music ed program, I don't want to be in the theatre program so I am rushing to get an audition together so I can get into that program. Classes for next year need to be chosen soon, but without being in the major I can't choose the classes....so I'll have to choose theatre major classes and then change them when and if I get into the music ed program (knock on wood and cross your fingers for me). I am just stressing. I am sure it'll all work out in the end, but I just have a lot going on.
Chris goes back to school on Monday. It's been nice having him around. It makes me excited for the summer even more. It will be nice to spend time with him this summer knowing that he won't have to go back to school in just a few days, but he'll be home for a few months! So yay to that.

Though I was exhausted yesterday, I had a great time seeing "Once Upon A Mattress" with Chris. I thought it was really well done and it was funny too. I'm not a big fan of old fashioned type shows, but this was good regardless. The actors were fabulous also. The choreographer from Bat Boy played Lady Larken which is one of the leads and she was fantastic. It was cool to hear the song "Shy" done in the show because that is the song Chantal sang in Chizzle Wizzle last year.

Meet Red. He is the mascot for the restaurant Red Robin which is probably one of my top FAVORITE restaurants in Augusta. They are a burger joint mostly, but they also server other entrees. Chris and I dined there last night. It was yummy yummy yummy!! In about an hour Chris and I are making the trek to Ellsworth to see The Grand's production of Once Upon A Mattress. I want to go because Greg, Whitney, and Brianne (people from my Bat Boy crowd) are in it. Plus, Dominick (a guy who's office I work in) is the director. It should be a good show. Ellsworth is like 2 hours away though...blah. Plus, after the show it's another 45 minutes or so to Orono. Chris and I will get to see all angles of this lovely state. Alright, gotta run.
